Music Development

At Glenthorne Community Primary School, our Music Development Plan sets out how we provide high-quality music education for every child. It explains what children learn in music lessons, the extra opportunities available beyond the classroom, and the musical experiences we offer throughout the school year.

All schools are required to have a Music Development Plan to ensure that music is inclusive, well-planned and progressive. The plan helps us make sure that every child has the chance to sing, play instruments, perform, and develop a lifelong enjoyment of music, regardless of background or ability.

Our plan shows how music is taught through a structured curriculum, how children can take part in clubs, performances and instrumental lessons, and how we work with specialist organisations to enrich musical learning. It also outlines how we continue to improve our provision, support staff development, and ensure that music is accessible for all pupils, including those with SEND.

By sharing our Music Development Plan, we aim to be open with parents and carers about what we offer in music and how it supports children’s confidence, creativity, teamwork and personal development, both now and in the future.
