Pastoral Care at
Glenthorne Community Primary School

At Glenthorne Community Primary, our aim is to provide the highest quality pastoral care throughout the school. All staff work together to help pupils at our school to achieve their best-educationally, socially and emotionally.

Every member of staff is committed to supporting the emotional health and well-being of all our children and their families. All staff are happy to speak to pupils and parents/carers about any concerns they may have. However, we also have a dedicated Pastoral Care Team, who are responsible for ‘Inclusion’ within the school.

Glenthorne Community Primary School understands the importance of enabling the voice of the child to be heard to promote safeguarding and well-being.

Examples of the Pastoral Care Team’s work include:

. Lunchtime self-referral drop-in sessions with the Pastoral Care Team.

· We are a ‘talking school’; we encourage our children to share their concerns at all times.

· Pupil Leadership Team. Their peers elect the pupils for the Team. Children are fully aware of the role of the elected school councillors and are encouraged to regularly bring their views and ideas to their Class Representatives.

· School Prefects. These children are role models to younger children and someone they know who they can go to for support.

· Playground Leaders & Healthy Hearts Team are very visible in the playground at play and lunch breaks.

· Children, who are identified as vulnerable, are given a Key Worker at play and lunch times. This ensures that the social and emotional needs of vulnerable children are being addressed consistently.

Our aims are:

· To provide an environment which will support the emotional health and well-being of all our pupils.

. To support and empower families who are experiencing challenges.

·To meet the differing needs of all our children so that each unique child is equipped with life-long skills.

· To help our children develop empathy for social, spiritual, emotional and physical needs within the school.

·To maintain an atmosphere in which children feel secure, are encouraged in their learning, growth and social development and know that they are valued within a healthy and safe environment.

· To model for parents/carers that their children are being educated in a safe and nurturing environment.

· To motivate pupils to recognise and reflect upon our core values.

· To promote positive relationships with parents/carers through good communication and interaction.

· To enhance parental awareness of how children learn and the importance of education.

· To work with a range of stakeholders, parents, support staff, outreach agencies and other schools to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil.

Here at Glenthorne, we offer a range of interventions to support children with their learning. The purpose of an early intervention is to ensure children have the maximum opportunity to accelerate their progress. There are many interventions across school but in particular, from a pastoral point of view, we are pleased to offer our children the experience of Forest School, Drawing & Talking and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants to help more with their emotional well being.
